• How to do Scooter Tricks Like Pros

Basic Tricks | Pro Scooter Shop

Scooter tricks are cool, but they're not easy to learn.

The best way to get better at scooter tricks is by practicing, but it can be hard to find the time and space for that.

I've got you covered with this guide on how to do all of the most popular scooter tricks like a pro!

I'm going to explain the most useful tips that I've learned over my years of scootering and break down exactly how to do each trick.

By the end of this guide, you'll be busting out all sorts of cool scooter tricks!

Both wheels leave the ground at the same time as you hop.

The hop is the first scooter trick you should learn. It's basically kicking your front tire up onto something, like a wall or short ledge.

To do this, put all of your weight on the very tip of your front wheel while pushing against whatever object you are trying to hop over.

For example, let's say that there is a curb and you want to hop over it. To do this, start rolling towards the curb on your scooter so that your front wheel is right next to it.

Then, lean all of your weight onto the very tip of the front of your wheel while pushing with one foot against the curb behind you.

Don't put too much weight on your front wheel, or else it will probably slip out from underneath you and you'll end up eating pavement.

In the meantime, if you’re interested in longboarding, here are 10 best longboards for beginners to try out.

Fakie – riding your scooter backward

Riding Fakie is simple. You basically just ride backward! To start, sit with all of your weight on the back of your scooter deck with your toes pointed toward the front of your scooter.

Then, just push off by using only your back foot. Remember to lean back on the way up so that you don't hit your head on whatever obstacle is behind you! Once you are comfortable riding fakie, try adding a bar spin or kickflip!

Manual scooter - riding solely on the back wheel

This is basically just a wheelie that you can control. This technique will help you perform nose pivots, tailwhips, and other tricks down the road!

To do this trick, sit on your scooter deck with all of your weight on the front of it. Then, put one foot up on the handlebars while pointing your toe in the direction of the back wheel.

To get started, just push forward with your front foot while keeping your back foot on that tip of the handlebars. Once you feel balanced, try to remove your front foot by slowly bringing it down until both feet are on your scooter deck.

Turn your scooter upside down and spin the deck using your front wheel (no jumping)

Before this trick, you should already be able to do a manual. To start, bring your front wheel underneath your deck while you are in the middle of a manual.

Then, slowly start leaning back until you can feel just the tip of your front tire on the ground. At that point, use both of your feet to pivot around the front of your scooter.

To get the most out of this trick, make sure that you end in a nose manual and that you pivot all the way around 360 degrees. As always, take it slow and try not to fall!

180 – spinning and jumping in the other direction

Ok, so this isn't exactly a scooter trick, but it will be if you do it!

This trick is done by jumping in the air and spinning 180 degrees so that you are facing the opposite direction when you land. To do this, just put all of your weight on your back wheels with your feet in the air.

Then, use both of your legs to push your scooter out from underneath you while also leaning back. Once you are completely upside down, use both of your legs to pivot around 180 degrees so that you land facing the opposite direction!

180-degree rotation in the air on a half/quarter pipe

The air is one of my favorite tricks to do on scooters. It's probably the trick that I'm best at, and I've landed it dozens of times.

To do this trick, you will need to already be able to manually consistently down a half/quarter pipe. Once you can do that, look for a ledge or curb (the higher the better) with a rounded top.

To start this trick, approach the ledge at a medium speed so that you have enough momentum to easily clear it with your scooter. Once you are ready, lean forward on the way up with one foot while kicking out the front wheels of your scooter.

Then, just use both of your legs to kick the scooter back underneath you as you spin 180 degrees in the air!

After landing, land your kickflip or barspin to keep it fresh. Also, make sure that you land on both wheels for a safe and solid landing.

Take both feet off the scooter deck.

These tricks are pretty similar, but they're great to practice when you're bored!

To do these tricks, just take one or both hands off the bars while holding onto them with your other hand/hands. You can also take both feet off of your scooter deck at the same time for a unique-looking trick!

Bar spin – Spinning your handlebars 360

The bar spin is an awesome trick to know. Not only does it look cool, but it will help you land other tricks like stalls and air 180s. To do this trick, simply grab onto your scooter's bars before doing a nose manual.

Then, start spinning your bars either clockwise or counterclockwise so that they end up pointing in the opposite direction of where you originally grabbed them at.

To get the most power out of this trick (and to keep yourself from falling), make sure that your weight is on your back foot while you are doing this trick.

    Tailwhip

The final trick that you will learn in this tutorial is the tailwhip. This trick might look difficult, but you'll get it in no time if you practice enough!

To do a tailwhip, start out by grabbing your scooter's bars and getting into a manual. Once your back wheel is on the ground, use your front foot to pivot your deck around 180 degrees so that it is facing the opposite direction.

For this trick, make sure that you are using both of your hands to hold on to the bars while doing this.

After you complete the pivot, quickly jump up with one leg and kick out the back wheel of your scooter so that it swings around 180 degrees.

While your scooter is completing the tailwhip, make sure that you jump up with both legs and don't hold on with your hands!

    Conclusion

Just like with all of these tricks, make sure that you take it slow at first and practice it over the grass to help soften any falls that you might take. Thanks for reading this tutorial!

There are lots of different types of scooter tricks; this tutorial is about how to do some of the most popular ones.

Some of these may be difficult for beginners (especially learning them on grass) but with enough practice, you'll be able to do all of them!
